Artist’s Information – Alicja Rogalska
Alicja Rogalska is a participatory artist from Poland, currently based
in Birmingham . She works with a variety of media and materials (including
photography and found objects) and initiates/delivers arts projects both
locally and internationally, often inviting other artists to join her.
She is interested in site-specific projects and working with local communities.
The process of creating an artwork is usually based on the relationships
she develops with the groups and individuals she works with. Alicja is
also interested in putting art in non-institutional contexts and creating
alternative possibilities for engaging with artworks.
Relevant Exhibitions/Projects Include:
Polen.edu (2005)
Curator and Project Co-ordinator of festival of Polish youth culture at
the University of Stockholm, Sweden.
20 young artists from Poland were invited to lead workshops, lectures,
perform and exhibit artworks. The project lasted 4 days (1-4 February
2005) and included: electroacoustic music, video-art, creative workshops,
film-screenings, photography exhibitions, a rock concert, a themed party,

The Wishing Tree (2003)
An installation of postcards created from images taken during digital
workshops with local students in Suprasl, Poland. Wishes written on the
postcards were collected through conversations with local residents.
The project (Home, My Centre of the World) involved 20 artists from Poland
and England and was part of the Animus project – a project funded
by the EU programme Leonardo da Vinci. (Images: The installation and some

Through the Eyes of Others (2004)
A project commissioned by The Public and realised in collaboration with
Polish artist Ania Bas. The project was developed with an Asian family
in West Bromwich and culminated in a permanent photographic exhibition
at Shergill Sweet Shop. (Images: two images from the exhibition and Shergill
